It's six days before Christmas and you break down with a gear-box problem near Teruel in Spain.

What would you do?

Actually, you do have a choice. This is based on real people's experience after they broke down in southern Spain. Luckily they were on their way home and they had AA European Breakdown Cover.

Day 1 of the car breakdown in Spain

After they called the AA, we contacted the Spanish assistance service on their behalf:

• The people were picked up by taxi.
• They were put up at a hotel overnight.
• The car was put on a flatbed.

Day 2 of the car breakdown in Spain

• A taxi then took the group to Perpignan, France.
• They picked up a hire car, which took them to their ferry port.
• In Britain, they picked up another hire car so they could drive home.
• Their car followed on a flatbed.

All that and they still managed to arrive home two hours earlier than originally planned.
